Parent and community engagement is key to student success. All parents, family and community members are invited to be involved in our school. We offer a variety of ways for interested individuals to support our students. Some examples include joining our parent organization, volunteer tutoring, chaperoning field trips, serving as a site council member and helping with school special events. The Beachwood staff has focused on meeting each child where they are and helping them improve at an accelerated rate. To achieve these goals, we have focused on intentionally engaging our students and making their thinking and understanding visible. School Improvement Plan
School Year 2022-23 SMARTIE Goal #1: Academic Goal - The median growth for all students in grades K-5 at Beachwood will be 60 or higher as measured on STAR reading when formally assessed in the 2022-23 school year.
School Year 2022-23 SMARTIE Goal #2: Family Engagement Goal - Increase the number of family engagement by holding at least one family event and one "Coffee with Principal" per trimester. Family engagement data will reflect equitable engagement across lines of race and ethnicity.
School Year 2022-23 SMARTIE Goal #3: Social Emotional Goal - Student perception data will improve to a minimum of 90% of students agreeing with the statement, "I am told what I am good at by people at school". This statement reflected our lowest scores in the spring 2022 Rhithm WCWD survey.Facility Use and Condition

Goal #1: Academic Achievement and College Readiness
Strengths:
- ELA Performance: In the 2022-23 SBA, 77% of third graders and 78% of fourth graders met the ELA standards. Underrepresented groups also performed well: Hispanic/Latino students (74%), Black students (75%) and multiracial students (78%).
- Math Performance: In math, 80% of third graders and 77% of fourth graders met the standards. Special education, Hispanic and multiracial groups also excelled, with 75%, 76% and 92% meeting standards, respectively.
Priorities:
- ELA Interventions: Focus on targeted interventions for tier 3 students in ELA using the STAR assessment, prioritizing special populations who did not meet the 2022-23 SBA standards.
- Math Interventions: Introduce a new intervention block for math, targeting MLL and third grade students identified as needing support based on SBA and STAR assessments.
Goal #2: Family Engagement and Communication
Strengths:- Effective Communication: According to CEE data, 81% of families felt Beachwood communicated effectively.
- Future Preparation: Similarly, 81% of families believed Beachwood is preparing their students for a successful future.
Priorities:
- Parent Education: Address the 27% of families who do not understand Beachwood’s expectations by prioritizing parent education initiatives, such as "coffee with the principal" events.
- Family Input: Increase family input in school improvement efforts, as only 35% of families felt they had a say in improving Beachwood.
Goal #3: Supportive Learning Environments
Strengths:- Caring Adults: CEE data indicates that 86% of students feel there is at least one adult at Beachwood who knows and cares about them.
- Acceptance and Respect: 84% of students feel their differences are respected and accepted at Beachwood.
Priorities:
- School Enjoyment: Tackle the issue that 13% of students do not enjoy coming to school.
- Social Belonging: Address the concern that 13% of students do not feel like they belong to a group of friends at Beachwood.
