Students at Harrison Prep will graduate as caring, curious, confident, and college-ready young people who have respect for multiple cultures and perspectives.

Teachers at HP will design standards-based challenging learning experiences enriched through technology, community partnerships and personal projects.

Staff at HP will foster meaningful and personalized relationships preparing students for global citizenship.

Student, Parent and Community Involvement

STUDENTS:

Students were intricately involved in building and preserving a positive school culture and climate. Student contributions included:

1. Planning recognition programs and assemblies that were fun, fair and inclusive of all students.
2. They established annual school-wide themes that build school pride for all stake-holders.
3. They take advantage of opportunities to give on-going service to local and global communities.

PARENTS:

Parents partnered with the school in a variety of ways to include:

1. Active participation on the PTO with once a month meetings where they provided dinner, pertinent information was shared and discussed.
2. On-going support of a variety of school activities to include all school sponsored events and parent workshops.
3. Providing information to include in our monthly newsletter, and their own PTO social media website.

COMMUNITY PARTNERS

Our Associated Study Body (ASB) through clubs like leadership, National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society, partnered with a number of local and global organizations to help support student driven initiative during the 2015-2016 school year.

1. Harrison Prep students donated more than 1,600 canned food items and dry goods to FISH Food Bank in Lakewood during the WE Scare Hunger campaign in October 2016.
2. Additionally, students collected more than $650 in loose change during the first WE Create Change campaign for the year, which was used to purchase 13 goats in Haiti through the charity, Free the Children. Goats are used as an alternative source of income for families in developing countries for families to sell things like their milk, wool and cheese.
3. In December, middle school leadership, high school leadership, National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society hosted a Week of Service. Middle school leadership collected coloring books to be donated to Caring for Kids. High school leadership organized a blood drive with Cascade Regional Blood Services, donating 27 pints of blood and signing up many new donors. National Honor Society collected gently used boots to donate to Reboot, which donates the boots to veterans in need and National Junior Honor Society collected unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots.
4. January brought around WE Won't Rest, a campaign to raise awareness about homeless and homeless needs. Harrison Prep students collected toothbrushes and toothpaste, socks and non-medication first aid items, all of which were donated to the Tacoma Rescue Mission.
5. For Valentine's Day, high school leadership sponsored the campaign WE Are Love, selling buttons to benefit Caring for Kids, our local district charity and raised over $200 for them.
6. The second WE Create Change was in March and benefitted LIMBS International, which manufactures affordable prosthetics for people in developing countries. Harrison Prep students raised over $180 dollars in loose change, enough foe almost one prosthetic leg.

CELEBRATIONS

Harrison had multiple winners at the South Sound Regional Science Fair including one winner of the Intel Science Talent Search Award.

Harrison began its first full year of implementing the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP).

Harrison Prep received a Washington Achievement Award for high progress and was recognized as a School of Distinction by the Center for Educational Effectiveness.

Graduating seniors were accepted to colleges and universities of their choice and scholarship offerings continued to increase for the 2016 graduating class.

Harrison gained authorization to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (DP). The school has offered the IB Middle Years Program(MYP) and the newly attained authorization makes the Clover Park School District the first public school district in the state of Washington to offer the full continuum of the IB Program from grades K-12.

Harrison had another two students selected to participate in the Washington Aerospace Scholars (WAS) Summer Residency session by completing 10 online lessons consisting of research essays, space-related math problems and detailed graphics illustrating their ideas.

Each of our graduating seniors were accepted to colleges and universities of their choice and scholarship offerings moved from just over $500,000 in 2014 to over $1,800,000 for the 2015 graduating class.

School Improvement Plan

The Harrison Prep. School Improvement Plan Focused on five Main Goals to include:

Goal #1: Reading Goal: All students, at the end of each school year, are prepared to transition to the next grade/level and be successful therein.

Goal #2: Math Goal: All students, at the end of each school year, are prepared to transition to the next grade/level and be successful therein.

Goal #3: Science Goal: 85% of 10th grade students will pass the Biology EOC in the spring of 2016.

Goal #4: District-Wide: Implement Strategies for Improving Instructional Practice.

Goal #5: School Specific Goal: Harrison Prep will complete the application process and the outlined requirements to become an authorized IB Diploma School.

A number of strategies have been outlined to achieve the goals listed above and can be viewed in further detail by visiting our website which can be found on the "schools" tab of the Clover Park School District website.

The majority of our students continue to meet standard in areas of the state assessments: MSP/HSPE and EOC. 100% of our 10th grade students passed the reading assessment and 95% passed the Writing High School Proficiency Exams. We will continue to focus our efforts on ensuring that all students set and achieve personal academic growth goals.

The analysis of student achievement data, and on-going monitoring of strategies identified in our school improvement plan keeps us accountable to positive progress and overall students success. Our goal is to continue to see our students achieving at high levels in preparation for a successful transition to successful college and career experiences.
