Principal's Message

Dear Lancer Family,
Thank you for such a positive start to the school year.  You have been patient with our adjustment to a new system and your children have been positive and enthusiastic.  Working with the end in mind, our goal is that your child is future ready.  During the course of our year together, we will communicate with you about the ways in which we strive for that goal and want to support your child not only to a high school diploma, but being prepared to go on to post-secondary education and the career path of their choosing when they leave Lakes.

Our first opportunity to share with you will be October 18, 2012 from 5:00 PM to 8:45 PM, when we have our Tennis Shoe Conferencing.  This evening is the Lakes’ version of “Back to School Night”.  You will have just received progress reports for your student in the mail and you will be able to come and check in with any or all of your child’s teachers for a brief conversation about progress and/or challenges.  You will hear more about that in the coming weeks.

In the next two weeks we will be starting after school tutoring, which will run from 2:30-4:00, Monday through Thursday.  We encourage any and all students to attend to receive help or simply to have a place to complete their homework.

I encourage students to visit the Career Center on the student avenue to check out the most recent information about colleges and opportunities.  They should visit the GEAR UP office while they are there to look in to what they have to offer.  Including waivers for the ACT and much more expertise.

There are a variety of extracurricular activities to keep students active and learning after school as well.  Please check out our website where you will find information about clubs and activities, contacting staff, advisory requirements and much more.  We look forward to partnering with you this year for the success of each and every child!

You are and will continue to be our best partner in engaging our students in
learning and helping them to care about and understand what it takes to
succeed.  We thank you for finding ways both to talk with your own children
and for those of you who spend your time helping us reach out to even more.
Please do not hesitate to share your questions, concerns and kudos.

Sincerely,

Karen Mauer-Smith
