About our clubs

Lakes has a wide variety of clubs and activities. They range from formal clubs, sponsored by the ASB, to informal groups and activities. The list below provides innformation on our clubs, their advisors, and more. Some of the clubs will have new advisors this year. This page will be updated as advisors and schedules are set.

 

ASB

Advisors: Jessica Soete & Deb Yearsley

Elected officers and appointed representatives represent all the students of the school.  The ASB works together to promote the interests of the students through the RSVP program, athletics, clubs, and activities.  The majority of school-wide events and activities are organized by the ASB. Must have & maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA.

Meeting Dates & Times:Orange days during third period, approximately every other week. After school or other meetigs are scheduled according to upcoming events.

African American Club

Members of this club gather to discuss the development of African Americans in this country.  This organization promotes cultural diversity and tolerance with in the school community.  AAC Step Team is a part of this club.

Chess Club

Members of the chess club meet weekly to practice, play, and share the strategies that encompass chess.  This club also competes during the fall and winter seasons against other schools.

Debate

Members of the debate club meet weekly to practice and share the strategies that encompass debating.  This club also competes against other schools.

The purpose of DECA is to introduce students to the foundations of business and entrepreneurship.  A chapter of a nation-wide organization, DECA holds regional, state, and national competitions.

Drama

Earth Club

Advisor: Katrina Thietje-Weihs

Committed to environmental improvement and community service projects. Activities include a monthly campus clean-up, event planning, and hosting activities to raise awareness of how we can positively impact our community. We are also facilitate the Spring Mountain School fieldtrip.  See Mrs. Thietje-Weihs for details.

This organization competes at regional, state, and national competitions similar to DECA. This organization conducts many community related events such as the Senior Mock Car Crash.

Announcements: It's Blood Drive Time again! FCCLA is hosting the first blood drive of the year on Monday January 7th, 2013. Please sign up in the main office now through Friday January 4th to donate and earn some community service hours. If you are over 16 but under 18 you do need a parent permission slip which is located next to the signup sheet. Your simple donation can save a life

We celebrate French holidays, play games, make posters, sample French food, watch movies in French, learn about countries that speak French & their culture, French trivia, news from French countries.

Gay/Straight Alliance

The Gay-Straight Alliance meets to provide a welcoming and safe environment for LGBTQ individuals and their straight allies.  We promote non-bullying in our community at Lakes and celebrate diversity.  Activities include monthly guest speakers, participation in the Pierce County AIDS walk (September), and promotion of opportunities for LGBTQ individuals for leadership, support and scholarship.

A volunteer organization concentrating on improving our schools and our community.  It is sponsored by the Lakewood Kiwanas.  Some of the events that Key Club sponsors include book drives, clothing drives, Caring for Kids, and other Kiwanis activities.

Meeting Dates & Times: Second and fourth Tuesday of each month.

Announcements:Attention all National Honor Society members: It is finally time to order your sweatshirt or T-shirt. Come and get your order form from Mrs. Morlan in S210. Please pay Mrs. Yearsley in student accounts, and then bring your order form and receipt to Mrs. Morlan. Don’t wait too long – our sweatshirt/t-shirt sale is only on for a short while!
