Superintendent Chris Reykdal visits Lakes High School
The newly elected Superintendent of Public Instruction for the state of Washington, Chris Reykdal, visited a Civics and AP Government and Politics class at Lakes High School recently. Superintendent Reykdal spent nearly ninety minutes answering largely student generated questions on topics that ranged from the current status of the McCleary Decision, the philosophy behind the High School and Beyond Plan and the relationship of the state of Washington to the federal department of education.
“I thought the event went well with regard to the ways students presented themselves well and asked pertinent follow up questions,” said John Shelton, AP Government and Politics teacher.
The superintendent told students near the end of his presentation to take part in civic engagement sometime during their lives because the composition of state government needs to change in order to better represent the demographics of today.
