Lochburn MS receives library grant to purchase bilingual books

Lochburn Middle School is one of only three schools in the state to receive a Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries Grant. The $5,000 grant will be used to purchase bilingual books for English Language Learner (ELL) students.

“We have many ELL students but very few bilingual books in our school library,” said Jamie Moffett, Lochburn’s library media specialist. “These new bilingual books are called ‘high interest/low reading level’ and will help ELL students who may be struggling with their reading. The high interest/high content books are appealing to students and will encourage them to read.”

Moffett applied for the highly competitive grant in previous years and won it this year. More than $831,000 in grants will be distributed to 130 school libraries across the country.
