Employees of the Year selected for Clover Park School District
Three Clover Park School District (CPSD) employees were honored as Employees of the Year at a districtwide celebration on May 11. Since 1987, CPSD has honored exemplary employees in three categories: certificated, classified and administrative. Award recipients are chosen by an independent panel of Lakewood citizens.
2015 CPSD Employees of the Year are:
- Nicole Wonner, Certificated Employee of the Year;
- Sandra Cruz, Classified Employee of the Year; and
- John Mitchell, Administrative Employee of the Year.
Nicole Wonner, teacher, Custer Elementary School
Nicole is a second/third-grade teacher at Custer. She not only makes sure her students are equipped within her classroom, but she ensures each student’s family is equipped to help their students succeed. One mother commented that Nicole spent extra time working with her daughter until her daughter’s grades improved. Nicole also provided the parent with some work to help her daughter at home to supplement what was being taught in class. Nicole continues to be a leader and an inspiration to the rest of the staff.
Sandra Cruz, paraeducator, Hillside Elementary School
Sandra has been involved with Hillside since 1983, first as a volunteer and then as an employee. Sandra is a passionate reader and tries to instill the love of reading into all her students. She cares deeply about her students and strives to make them great readers in the classroom and model citizens in the world. Her dedication to positively impact her students’ abilities is evident in the significant growth they make in their reading skills, even those who are the most challenged. Her students’ test scores show consistently substantial gains.
John Mitchell, principal, Southgate Elementary School
John has been a Clover Park School District principal for 17 years. He truly believes every student is capable of success and will be a positive contributor to the community. John is dedicated, courageous
and unrelenting in his effort to ensure all Southgate students are college and career ready. He builds capacity and cultivates teacher leaders by developing their strengths not only as individuals but also as collaborators. Student achievement and doing what is best for every student’s well-being are always at the core of John’s decisions.
